TLDR: Demand for server chips used to train and run machine-learning software has caused a shortage, prompting major cloud-server providers to limit their availability for customers.
The shortage is due to the failure of cloud providers to anticipate the surge in demand from new AI customers and the subsequent backlog at Nvidia, the dominant GPU maker in the market.
The shortage has frustrated software developers trying to build AI tools, hinging on recent advancements in machine-learning models.
The shortage is affecting even major cloud-server providers, such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Google, and Oracle, who have limited their availability for customers due to the spike in demand for server chips. OpenAI, and cloud providers are scrambling to get more GPUs to fulfill new orders.
