šŸ’° Funding News

  1. Axios HQ, a communications software company spun off from Axios, raised $20 million in Series A funding led by Glade Brook Capital Partners and including Greycroft. 

  2. Perplexity AI, a conversational AI-powered answer engine, has raised $25.6 million in Series A funding led by New Enterprise Associates with participation from Databricks Ventures and existing angel investors. 

  3. Fashinza, an AI-driven fashion tech company, has raised $30 million in funding from Mars Growth Capital and Liquidity Group. 

  4. Fetch.ai is a startup that is using AI + ML to create digital assistants that can help people communicate and take action between different AI apps and services. They announced $40 million in funding provided by DWF Labs. 

  5. Deep Render, a ML startup focused video compression raised $9M in funding, including a $6.3M Series A round led by IP Group and Pentech Ventures, plus a $2.7M competitive grant from the European Innovation Council. 

  6. Impact Observatory uses AI+ML to create high-resolution maps of the world for governments and commercial customers. They recently closed a seed funding round, raising more than $5.9M, with investment from Esri, the global leader in mapping and location intelligence. 

  7. DataDome, a leading provider of AI-powered online fraud and bot management to companies like Reddit, Rakuten, and AngelList, raised $42 million in a Series C funding round led by InfraVia Growth and with participation from Elephant, ISAI, and others. 

  8. Fixie, a cloud platform that uses NLP and AI to automate business processes, answer data questions, and integrate with various tools and APIs, has secured $17 million in seed funding led by Redpoint. Other investors in the round include Zetta Venture Partners, SignalFire, Bloomberg Beta, and Kearny Jackson, as well as angel investors from tech giants like Google, Amazon, and Apple. 

  9. Agreena is a climate and fintech company that has raised ā‚¬46 million in its Series B funding round, led by HV Capital and including impact fund AENU and fintech-focused Anthemis. The companyā€™s soil carbon platform uses AI-based monitoring and verification solutions that utilizes satellite imagery, coupled with ground-truth data and machine learning to identify and report on-farm regenerative agriculture practices.

1. Lex Fridman sat down with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to discuss ChatGPT/GPT-4, the impact of AI on the world and the future, the state of society, and the meaning of life. This discussion was incredibly insightful and you donā€™t want to miss it.

2. CBS Mornings published their full interview with the ā€œGodfather of artificial intelligenceā€, Geoffrey Hinton. Hinton is a pioneer in machine learning and is noted for his work in artificial neural networks. His work is cited often in the advancement of artificial intelligence to what it is today. He shared his thoughts on the past, present, and future of AI with CBS mornings. 

3. Runway recently hosted the first annual AI Film Festival. The festival included many celebrated artists showcasing their work at the forefront of AI filmmaking. Check out the top 10 films from this year's festival here including the grand prize winner, ā€œGenerationā€ by Riccardo Fusetti

4. The New Way We Work, a podcast by Fast Company, recently discussed many of the key questions that people have been asking when it comes to how AI will be integrated into the workplace. How disruptive is AI? How can we use AI to our advantage? And is there anything we, as regular humans can do to not only keep our jobs but hold on to our humanity?

6. Lex Fridmanā€™s latest conversation is with Eliezer Yudkowsky, co-founder of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI), who is best known for popularizing the idea of friendly artificial intelligence and his strong stances against the acceleration of AI.
