TLDR: The CTO of Microsoft Germany just announced GPT-4, their latest large language model (LLM), during an AI in Focus-Digital Kickoff event. Andreas Braun also mentioned that the new GPT-4 model, with multi-modal capabilities, will offer new possibilities such as generated videos and has explained that OpenAI has refined the technology to work in multiple languages, such that one can ask a question in one language and receive an answer in another language.
The Big Picture: It’s only been a few months and we might already be working with GPT-4. AI progress is quickly becoming exponential.

TLDR: Discord is launching three new AI experiences as free public experiments in a limited number of servers:
Clyde, the helpful robot, has been upgraded using OpenAI technology to be able to answer questions and have extended conversations with users.
AutoMod AI uses LLM to detect and alert moderators when server rules may have been broken, taking into account the context of the conversation.
Conversation Summaries use AI-generated summaries to bundle streams of messages into topics so that users can quickly catch up on what matters most to them.
The company is also;
open-sourcing Avatar Remix, an app that lets friends remix each other's avatars using generative image models and;
previewing AI Preview, a shared visual space with an AI-powered text-to-image generator for collaboration.
And finally, Discord has launched an AI incubator as part of its ecosystem fund to support innovative AI startups. Developers who participate will be eligible for cash grants, office hours with Discord development teams, cloud compute credits, and early access to Discord platform features.
The Big Picture: It just so happens that Discord is also updating their privacy policy 👀
oh, so that's why you're gonna record voice calls. its to turn Discord into one giant AI training model. How perfectly horrifying.

TLDR: OpenAI has been taking big steps as a company over the past few months, having partnered with multi-national corporations like Microsoft and Bain & Co. It’s understandable, LLM’s are expensive to run. The research lab/non-profit is working hard to create a valuable product for all kinds of people and businesses to use.
CEO Sam Altman recently announced at an investor’s conference that the company plans to release tools that give users more control over the generative AI system and improve models for general and specific use cases. OpenAI aims to build a platform that sells APIs to others and creates applications like ChatGPT.
The company will also be working on addressing criticism for inaccuracies and accusations of left-leaning political bias. Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s co-founder and president, admits that the company didn't move quickly enough to give users greater control over the chatbot's behaviour. They acknowledge that their goal is not to have biased AI and that there are lines that AIs should never cross.

TLDR: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has made a surprising call for regulation of AI technology, in order to avoid harming growth or becoming a national security risk. The Chamber argues that a "risk-based regulatory framework" must be established by policymakers and business leaders, in anticipation of AI's projected contribution of $13 trillion to global economic growth by 2030 and widespread use over the coming decade. While the Chamber suggests that flexible, industry-specific guidance and best practices should be developed, it also recognizes the critical role of the business community in managing the deployment of AI.

1. Steven Spielberg shared a few of his thoughts on AI with Stephen Colbert. Humanity’s creative geniuses can evoke feelings with their work because the people experiencing them understand the craftsmanship that went into making them. If AI learns to replicate that ability to touch someone’s soul, we’re in for one heck of a ride. (Twitter)
Steven Spielberg on artificial intelligence: “The soul is unimaginable and is ineffable, the soul. And it cannot be created by any algorithm, it is just something that exists in all of us.”

They can insert computer-generated characters into live-action scenes, making CGI and 3D modelling a thing of the past. Steven Spielberg is on the advisory board for Wonder Dynamics. (Vimeo)
While one job might seem like it’s being taken over by AI, another niche is being created. Creative people will find creative ways to use this technology and it’ll be amazing to see what great minds like Steven Spielberg’s can create with it. For now, we’ll leave the creativity to the creators and leave it to the AI to bring it to life.
