TLDR: Microsoft has announced the integration of Bing Image Creator into the new Bing and Edge preview.

  • Bing Image Creator, powered by the advanced version of the DALL∙E model from OpenAI, allows users to create an image by describing the picture they want to see.

  • Bing Image Creator will be fully integrated into the Bing chat experience, rolling out initially in Creative mode, and will also be available in Microsoft Edge, making it the first and only browser with an integrated AI-powered image generator.

  • Bing Image Creator will be available initially only in the Creative mode of Bing chat, with the intention to make it available in Balanced and Precise mode over time.

  • Bing Image Creator will begin to roll out to Bing preview users on both desktop and mobile, and the preview experience of Image Creator is now available at bing.com/create for Bing users around the world in English.

TLDR: Google is opening early access to Bard, their answer to Bing Chat and ChatGPT.

  • Bard was described by VP of product Sissie Hsiao and VP of research Eli Collins as “an early experiment ... intended to help people boost their productivity, accelerate their ideas, and fuel their curiosity.”

  • Users in the US and UK can join a waitlist for access, but the speed of rollout and a date for full public access has not been shared.

  • One of the biggest features that Bard boasts is an up-to-date knowledge base thanks to its connection to Google.

  • Google emphasizes that Bard is not a replacement for search. Bard generates three responses to each user query, with a "Google It" button included in each response to redirect users to a related Google search.

TLDR: Adobe has launched an AI tool called Firefly that allows users to modify images by typing commands, generating variations of elements within an image, and creating paintbrushes based on images.

  • The first Firefly model uses generative AI to create content for Adobe apps such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe Experience Manager, with metadata indicating that the art is partially or wholly AI-generated.

  • Firefly is designed to avoid ethical and logistical issues associated with similar AI tools and will launch first as a private beta. They are emphasizing responsibility by working toward a universal “Do Not Train” Content Credentials tag that will remain associated with a piece of content wherever it is used, published, or stored.

  • Adobe's launch of Firefly comes after the company spent $20 billion to acquire the design tool Figma in September 2022 and integrates features from other products into Figma, at a time when AI is increasingly integrated into design tools.

TLDR: OpenAI's new generative AI tool GPT-4 is more likely to generate and spread misinformation than its predecessor GPT-3.5.

  • GPT-4 produced false information in 100% of their NewsGuard's tests whereas GPT-3.5 produces it in only 80%.

  • They found that GPT-4 was better at generating false narratives in convincing ways across various formats, including news articles, Twitter threads, and TV scripts.

  • GPT-4 was found to be more prone to spreading misinformation and less capable of identifying and qualifying it, making responses less likely to include disclaimers about their falsity compared to its predecessor, ChatGPT-3.5.
