TLDR: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman noted recently that the company has no plans to go public in order to maintain full control over the technology, especially as the development of superintelligence may lead to unconventional decisions that public market investors would find strange.
In a (since leaked) closed-door meeting with potential customers and competitors, Altman also reassured developers that OpenAI will not roll out more consumer-facing products beyond ChatGPT, addressing concerns that the company may compete with its own customers.
One such customer, Jasper, has already noted that it faced challenges after the release of free copyediting assistance with ChatGPT and had to adapt by adding new features and acquiring a browser-extension company to differentiate its value proposition.
The course Altman charts for the business development and successful monetization of OpenAI remain unclear right now as the company’s LLMs are integrated into hundreds of apps, providing developers with a powerful tool to enhance productivity. OpenAI notes that its current focus is on improving the reliability and speed of its API, but the shortage of GPUs is causing delays in their short-term plans.

TLDR: The European Union is urging signatories to its Code of Practice on Online Disinformation to label deepfakes and other AI-generated content, emphasizing the need for technology to recognize and clearly mark AI content to users.
The EU sees two main discussion angles for addressing AI-generated content in the Code: ensuring services integrating generative AI have necessary safeguards against disinformation and requiring platforms with the potential to disseminate AI-generated disinformation to implement technology for content recognition and labeling.
The EU commissioner highlighted the importance of clear and fast labeling for deepfakes and AI-generated content, allowing users to immediately recognize machine-generated content. The Commission also expects signatories to report on measures taken to prevent the misuse of generative AI for disinformation in July.
