TLDR: Mozilla, the non-profit organization behind the Firefox browser, has launched a new AI-focused startup called Mozilla.ai. The mission of the company is to build open-source and trustworthy AI.

  • The new company is funded by a $30 million seed investment from the Mozilla Foundation, Mozilla's parent organization.

  • Note Mozilla.ai is NOT a non-profit like its parent organization. While Mozilla.ai is bound to the ethical principles of the Mozilla Foundation, it is open to spinning out its more successful explorations into products and companies in addition to open-source projects.
