TLDR: Salesforce Ventures, the global investment arm of Salesforce, has launched a $250 million generative AI fund aimed at developing responsible generative AI and strengthening the startup ecosystem. The fund will initially invest in four companies, including Anthropic, Cohere, Hearth.AI, and You.com.

Anthropic will partner with Salesforce to bring its conversational AI assistant Claude to more businesses in a responsible and ethical way. Cohere is working with Salesforce to enable businesses to build products and promote the broad adoption of natural language processing technology. Hearth AI is developing a new category of next-gen products focused on agency relationship management. Finally, You.com will offer a suite of generative AI apps and products for business users.

TLDR: Microsoft has launched Florence, a new multi-modal computer vision AI model that can understand both language and images and perform a diverse set of tasks. Multimodal models, which can handle several input and output modalities such as language and images, are considered to be the most capable AI systems. These models tend to perform better and be more computationally efficient than their unimodal counterparts, as they have contextual information from various modalities.

Microsoft has added Florence to its Vision APIs in Azure Cognitive Services, where it can perform automatic captioning, background removal, image retrieval, and video summarization. It can also segment objects in a photo, generate up to 10,000 tags per image, and paste objects onto another background. Microsoft has implemented Florence across its platforms and services, and it is expected to be used for various applications in the future, such as defect detection in manufacturing and enabling self-checkout in retail stores.

SOCi Inc. is a marketing platform for multi-location brands that has raised $120 million in a funding round led by JMI Equity, with participation from Vertical Venture Partners, Blossom Street Ventures, and Renew Group Private Limited. The company plans to further invest in its new line of AI marketing products called “Genius” and expand into new markets, including manufactured goods. Genius uses advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning models to transform its platform into a marketing partner that makes intelligent and impactful decisions while automating time-consuming marketing tasks at scale.

  2. Overhaul, a software-based supply-chain visibility and risk management solution for leading brands, has raised $73 million in new growth capital, led by Edison Partners and including strategic investors eGateway Capital, StepStone Group, and TRM Ventures. The funding includes $38M in equity and $35M in non-dilutive debt and will be used to expand globally, enhance products, and fund the acquisition of security services provider SensiGuard. Overhaul's platform uses AI and machine learning to build and train models that detect risks in transit, alerting security operations teams and law enforcement when needed.

  3. Assured Allies, an insurtech company, has raised $42.5 million in a Series B funding round led by FinTLV Ventures (Gil Arazi, Managing Partner) and Harel Insurance, with participation from other new and existing investors. Assured Allies uses machine learning and predictive analytics combined with the science of aging to provide successful aging programs that reduce the risk of disability and offer next-generation retirement products to make long-term care insurance accessible and financially sustainable. The funding will support the expansion of the company's carrier and partner network.

  4. Plus One Robotics has raised $50 million in Series C funding led by Scale Venture Partners, with participation from Top Tier Capital Partners, Tyche Partners, and ROBO Global Ventures. The company provides AI vision software and solutions for robotic parcel handling, which combine computer vision, AI, and supervised autonomy. The new funds will be used to increase capacity, scale deployment, and expand sales and marketing efforts in North America and internationally.
