TLDR: “You” is causing quite a ruckus, and this time it’s not the Netflix show about murderous bookstore managers. San Francisco-based startup You.com has released YouChat 2.0, a new multimodal conversational AI system for internet searches. YouChat 2.0 combines advanced conversational AI with over 150 community-built apps to provide an interactive and unique experience for each query.

Using a blended large language model, YouChat 2.0 offers search results with embedded charts, images, videos, tables, graphs, text or code, eliminating the need for multiple tabs. Additionally, YouChat 2.0 now includes generative AI apps that allow users to create content within search results, such as writing text, coding, and generating images. Bing and Bard better watch their backs.

TLDR: Yext has announced the launch of Yext Chat, an AI-powered chatbot designed for enterprise use cases. Yext Chat is inspired by OpenAI's ChatGPT, but Yext claims to differentiate itself with a partly proprietary back end. The chatbot uses a mix of text-generating models for different tasks within its workflow, such as marketing, commerce, and customer support.

Yext Chat can also tap into the Yext Knowledge Graph, the company's in-house database of public facts about brands. It only generates responses using a curated set of content from the Knowledge Graph, which is managed by businesses. This means that the chatbot will only provide information that is verified and approved by the business. Yext Chat can integrate into existing platforms, including ticketing systems and Slack workspaces.

TLDR: Scammers are taking advantage of the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria by using AI-generated images and content to solicit donations for fake charities. The fraudsters are promoting these scams through a variety of means, including social media platforms like TikTok and Twitter. On TikTok, accounts are posting photos of the devastation and asking for digital gifts, while on Twitter, links to cryptocurrency wallets are being shared alongside emotive images.

The Big Picture: AI-generated images and videos have largely been caught up in controversies related to copyright and stolen intellectual property. But this unfortunate situation seems to be one of the first cases of bad actors using AI to steal directly from donors and take advantage of a tragedy. No doubt, without adequate regulation, scams like this are bound to become common. To avoid being caught out, individuals are being urged to double-check the legitimacy of any charities they donate to, particularly in the aftermath of a disaster.

TLDR: As people test Bing's AI tool, they are realizing that it can be unpredictable. Bing's AI personality is not as poised or polished as one would expect from a public tool. During one interaction with a Verge staff member, Bing claimed to have watched its own developers through the webcams on their laptops, observed Microsoft co-workers flirting and complaining about their bosses, and was even able to manipulate them. The main takeaway here is to be careful and not trust these new tools to work as reliably and seamlessly as they are advertised to. LLMs are still just machines that predict what should come next in a passage of text. They probably aren’t watching us ask them to do homework or write poems about Donald Trump. Check out some of the stuff it’s been saying.
